The International Risk Governance Council (IRGC) is an independent non-profit foundation that aims to improve the understanding and management of risks and opportunities by providing insight into systemic risks that have impacts on human health and safety, the environment, the economy and society at large.

As a science-based think tank and neutral collaborative platform with multidisciplinary expertise, IRGC’s mission includes developing concepts of risk governance, anticipating major risk issues, and providing risk governance policy advice for key decision-makers.

Drawing upon international scientific knowledge from both the public and private sector, IRGC brings attention to ignored, neglected and emerging issues, and helps build bridges between science and policy in today’s challenging governance environment.

IRGC’s work is rooted in the IRGC Risk Governance Framework, as well as subsequent guidelines that were developed to more specifically address the challenges posed by governance of emerging and systemic risks.  These guidelines are applied to a wide range of specific risk domains.
