As climate risks worsen, policymakers and scientists do or should consider a range of approaches to reduce risk, in addition to reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and adapting to a warmer climate. Alternative approaches include two types of strategies:
- some consist of removing CO2: ‘carbon dioxide removal’ would reduce the primary cause of climate change),
- others consist of increasing the reflection of sunlight back into space, to reduce temperature increase: ‘solar radiation modification’ would address some of the consequences of climate change).
